Spy Kids: All the Time in the World Trailer Starring Jessica Alba and Jeremy Piven

Continuing his trend of alternating between R-rated action flicks and goofy comedies for kids, this summer Robert Rodriguez is following upMachete with his fourth installment in the Spy Kids series, Spy Kids: All the Time in the World. The franchise has been surprisingly successful up until now (the last one made almost $200 million worldwide on a $38 million budget), and it’s pretty crazy to think that the first Spy Kids film came out over a decade ago. For proof of that fact, just take a look at the appearance of original kids Daryl Sabara and Alexa Vega in this trailer as veteran spies who are all grown up now.

The idea this time around is to reboot the franchise and pass the torch on to a new family of spies. Jessica Alba plays a retired spy / news reporter / mom while Joel McHale plays her clueless husband and Ricky Gervais voices their robotic dog. Instead of Sylvester Stallone, the diabolical villain is none other thanEntourage star Jeremy Piven, and Danny Trejo apparently even makes a PG-rated appearance as Machete. Although these movies carry a certain amount of charm, I really think they could be great with just a little more effort behind them. As it is, I always feel a twinge of embarrassment for all those involved… but hey, I guess they’re all getting paid. Spy Kids: All the Time in the World hits theatres on August 19th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
